Editors’ Note
To our readers,
After staring at our respective laptop screens for what felt like hours, nothing quite captured how we wanted to begin our note except for this– our first go-around as Editors-in-Chief has been nothing short of a whirlwind. We’re so excited to present the third edition of Grey Matters here at the University of Maryland, a project that truly feels like a full-circle moment for us both.
This issue reflects the curiosity, care, and creativity our production team bringsevery semester. Between early drafts, close reads, and late-night tweaks, we found ourselves returning to the same type of questions. What feels true to this piece? What needs more time to develop? The pieces that follow answer these questions uniquely and at their own pace, each one offering something honest to the page, from topics related to health and disease to those exploring what makes us cringe. When put all together, each article speaks to the kind of thinking this journal is meant to hold space for.
We are incredibly proud of this edition and deeply grateful to everyone who helped pump it to life. From returning members to new contributors whose ideas shaped this issue in meaningful ways, it has been a genuine joy to guide Grey Matters through this cycle, and we’re excited to see where it continues to grow!
